Partners

I was always going to end up watching Partners after I heard about it because of the actors involved. My biggest girl crush is on Sophia Bush (and I will be a One Tree Hill fan always and forever) and I also liked Mark from Ugly Betty, played by Michael Urie. He was one of my favorite characters then and is in the main cast of Partners too. The fact the two main characters (Louis and Joe) were architects interested me a little bit more, so I watched the pilot and I was happy with the show. It made me laugh, I loved the characters and the little arguments they had. While watching it, the characters Louis and Joe reminded me of myself and my brother Scott who like Louis is gay, and is my gay best friend as well as my brother. I have read online that there are not as many viewers so it is already rumoured to be cancelled, I am unsure how true this is but I would love this programme to end up having a How I Met Your Mother status because they are slightly similar. Also I’d personally I would love to have 8 seasons of Partners.

Because of Joe and Louis being architects the sets have been designed well and are all pretty cool. They seem to suit the characters well. The guy’s office is very cool yet original, I would like my office to look slightly more like this, though my work office and theirs do have similarities. I like their work kitchen and parts of each of their apartments too. All of them have exposed brick walls, I’m not moaning about this because I LOVE this simple design/material. Although it would make a room colder I think it kind of makes rooms more homely and rustic.

I’ll start with their office…Being architects they have their fancy nice looking Macs on top of a nice thick wooden block desk. I am a fan of furniture made from chunky and old pieces of wood. One of my favourite things in their room is their pedestals. I’d like one of them with all the almost hidden compartments and open trays and slots.  It seems that in all architect offices you always have to have shelves full of design books and of course this office is no exception. Throughout the office they have bursts of the colour green and their bookshelves have green side panels. Compared to my office at work theirs looks really personal (which seems a bit daft to say since it isn’t real) but my office almost seems pristine in comparison. I think its because they have lamps, ornaments and a sofa with cushions, which allows it to become a personalised space. They do however have a green chair which looks like ones we sell by Komac and very similar to ones we have in our office.
I love their chunky wooden desk, their pedestals and their green panelled bookcase!
Comfortable and personalised looking office.
What I like about their kitchen at their work (other than more exposed brick) is that although it is a bit cluttered with things which don’t necessarily belong in a kitchen, yet they still belong in a design related office (printer and stationary etc.), it seems more bespoke than a standard work canteen. Rather than having wall cupboards or storing their items within base cupboards there are quite a few shelves in this spacious kitchen that I believe makes this workspace again personalised.  It is quite itsy-bitsy and has different cupboard finishes that I usually wouldn’t like but I like it here, and especially like the dark green-grey coloured ones.

A printer in the kitchen? I like the dark coloured cupboards and the different chairs.
Louis’s kitchen is my ideal kitchen. The dark coloured cupboards are very sleek looking. On the short wall formed from a cupboard and shelves it actually looks like a kitchen dresser because of it being in between nibs of the wall. BUT BUT BUT my favorite thing though I didn’t even notice it at first is his table in the centre of the kitchen. It again has a chunky top, but it also has wheels! Once I noticed this Louis’s kitchen suddenly exuded an industrial sense.  I like how it is quite different. It seems Louis like.

I like the table in the centre :)
My favorite thing in Joe’s apartment, similarly to Louis’s, is the kitchen. I love the yellow toned tiled bricks behind his oven and I always love an island within a kitchen.  Joe’s apartment overall seems more masculine in my opinion, from the furniture to the colours used compared to a more camper, fancier Louis’s. I like the choice of chairs in his home, especially one you can see in his kitchen, which is the Eames Molded Plywood Chair. I have a new liking for unmatching chairs within a quite vicinity.

I like the mis-match of different chairs in Joe's apartment.
And i like the yellow brick tiles on the wall behind the cooker.
So yeah definitely lots of aspects of the design in Partners that I like and long for :)

Gossip Girl bedroom - Mine and Serena's

This is Serena’s bedroom, nice tones or yellows and light wood, then with this ‘burst’ of dark coloured butterflies above her headboard. I love her room, it looks really girly and even with the butterflies looks grown up.
Her butterflies are by Paul Villinski, who gathers his butterflies in certain shapes, or they ‘fly off’ into particular tangents. They are 3D ‘paintings’, some of what he has done have involved the process of recycling beer cans from New York and crushed them to form the butterflies. In Serena’s bedroom i think the dark tone causes them to stand out, and they are bold against the background colour. Although they are dark the rest of the room still allows it to be a warm space, i have seen the same butterflies in a white room and they don’t have the same warm feeling like her room does.

My bedroom in my flat.
My butterflies.
I have always loved butterflies, one of my favourite places is a butterfly house where i can spot all the different types of butterflies whilst adoring them and their patterned wings, all different sizes. My mum bought me my Kath Kidston style printed ones from Next one Christmas and i have just put them on my bedroom wall with my other abstract wall butterflies, and some of which i have handmade. The difference between mine and Serena’s (other than the money they cost) is obviously the colour/patterns, although mine are colourful, they sit on a plain wall. I can’t decorate my rented house so i have to make do. I have attempted to put them up in ‘flying off’ positions. I would like a proper Paul Villinski one for my bedroom and another for my living room once i have my own house one time, to create more of the look Serena has going on.

Butterflies seem impossible. How can these ridiculously delicate creatures, apparently blown about by the merest breath of wind, actually fly many thousands of miles to migrate? How is it that an innate, intergenerational GPS guides them year after year to the same tree? Are we more like them than we suspect, or could we be? -Paul Villinski

Carrie Bradshaw’s Apartment

So my first proper post! Perhaps a big one to start on, but until recently i had only seen the odd few episodes of Sex And The City so i begun watching it from the start. I have watched all of season 1 and 2 so far and i like it. The girl’s group dynamics is similar to me and my friends, and they live a lifestyle I’m sure me and my friends would love, all the meals, parties, shopping, money, living in NY, the apartment, maybe not the men bit as much though! [NOTE: I can only base this on what i have watched so far.]

So Carrie’s apartment ... I think the flat really is true to the character of Carrie. She can seem a bit all over the place at times and her cluttered apartment reflects this. Her and her outfits can sometimes be a little crazy, and her apartment with her belongings and her furniture shows her personality. When she’s not rushing round getting dressed for dates and going out with the girls she can be chilled out, mainly when she is writing her column, and her apartment can exude a relaxed feeling. There is also an edgy and quirky side to her. I think again this side of her is shown through the furniture and the roles they play; the way she mixes vintage finds with her designer bits. The differently designed chairs, which she pushes together when the girls are round, shows this side as they don’t match or have proper places, but this i guess still shows this ‘all over the place’ side too. She spends lots of time on her bed, it’s quite a central piece in the series so the open planned apartment suits this. The fact it is a one-room apartment fits well with her bachelorette life (when she’s not with Mr Big), while Samantha’s, Charlotte's and Miranda’s apartments seem almost more ‘grown up’. In the films after her apartment gets done up it is clutter free and this just doesn’t reflect her character as much.
Carrie's apartment [images various sources through Google search]
It is located in the Upper East Side fictionally, but is actually on Perry Street, Greenwich. Personally her apartment is what i would like to imagine all New York apartments to look like, with the large front windows, quite small but open plan, even the kitchen is how i imagine all NY kitchens to be – though she doesn’t spend much time in there does she! I like how her apartment reflects her personality with what is inside it. I like the books and magazines everywhere, the dressers and chunky oval wooden table (all again cluttered) and the non-matching chairs, and what girl wouldn’t like a large walk in wardrobe!
The miss-match chairs in her living room - I think its quirky!
