Carrie Bradshaw’s Apartment

So my first proper post! Perhaps a big one to start on, but until recently i had only seen the odd few episodes of Sex And The City so i begun watching it from the start. I have watched all of season 1 and 2 so far and i like it. The girl’s group dynamics is similar to me and my friends, and they live a lifestyle I’m sure me and my friends would love, all the meals, parties, shopping, money, living in NY, the apartment, maybe not the men bit as much though! [NOTE: I can only base this on what i have watched so far.]

So Carrie’s apartment ... I think the flat really is true to the character of Carrie. She can seem a bit all over the place at times and her cluttered apartment reflects this. Her and her outfits can sometimes be a little crazy, and her apartment with her belongings and her furniture shows her personality. When she’s not rushing round getting dressed for dates and going out with the girls she can be chilled out, mainly when she is writing her column, and her apartment can exude a relaxed feeling. There is also an edgy and quirky side to her. I think again this side of her is shown through the furniture and the roles they play; the way she mixes vintage finds with her designer bits. The differently designed chairs, which she pushes together when the girls are round, shows this side as they don’t match or have proper places, but this i guess still shows this ‘all over the place’ side too. She spends lots of time on her bed, it’s quite a central piece in the series so the open planned apartment suits this. The fact it is a one-room apartment fits well with her bachelorette life (when she’s not with Mr Big), while Samantha’s, Charlotte's and Miranda’s apartments seem almost more ‘grown up’. In the films after her apartment gets done up it is clutter free and this just doesn’t reflect her character as much.

It is located in the Upper East Side fictionally, but is actually on Perry Street, Greenwich. Personally her apartment is what i would like to imagine all New York apartments to look like, with the large front windows, quite small but open plan, even the kitchen is how i imagine all NY kitchens to be – though she doesn’t spend much time in there does she! I like how her apartment reflects her personality with what is inside it. I like the books and magazines everywhere, the dressers and chunky oval wooden table (all again cluttered) and the non-matching chairs, and what girl wouldn’t like a large walk in wardrobe!
The miss-match chairs in her living room - I think its quirky!
